Jean Lutz Senior Firewood Program

The Senior Firewood Program is a volunteer activity that has provided free firewood to low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities in the Grass Valley and Nevada City area since 1982.

HOW TO QUALIFY

Seniors & Disabled Persons with Low Income – complete a Senior Firewood Application by August 15th. GCCS will evaluate supply and notify qualified applicants that can be served. Qualified applicants that cannot be served will be placed on a waiting list for the next season. GCCS staff considers a variety of factors when qualifying an applicant. Some of the factors include: income, number of individuals in the household, distance from storage yard/ability to pick-up.

LIHEAP Program Participants – Individuals accepted into the Nevada County Low Income Heating Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) may use firewood vouchers to obtain firewood. Call 273-4961 to set up a delivery.

Others – GCCS sells a limited amount of firewood to the general public to assist with cost of running the program. Firewood is delivered for a price of $275/cord of oak and $175 for a cord of pine. Call 273-4961 to set up a delivery.

DONATIONS

GCCS gladly accepts downed trees. Because the program is run by volunteers it can take several weeks to schedule a pick-up; but once you’re on our schedule, it only takes a few hours for our volunteers to cut-up and remove your tree. Trees have to be accessible and within a 10 mile radius of Grass Valley. Sorry, but we do not accept Digger Pine or trees that have been down for a long time.
